CHICHAWATNI, Aug 21: Punjab Governor Salman Taseer said on Saturday that devastation by flood was beyond the estimates which could only be accessed after flood water recedes. Talking to mediamen here during his visit to flood-hit areas of Muzaffargarh, he said that the whole government machinery was busy day and night for the relief of flood affected. He said that food, clothes and medical facilities were being provided to the affected in relief camps.
The Governor said that he do not believe criticism without any reason, adding that he was satisfied over the performance of the Punjab government in providing relief to the flood-hit people and their rehabilitation.Regarding Nawaz Sharif’s proposal of setting up a commission to monitor the funds, the Governor said that only two leaders could not implement on it and for this purpose it is vital to take provinces into confidence. He dispelled the impression of creating hurdles in setting up the commission.
Salman Taseer disclosed that initially the federal government would provide Rs 12,000 to each family which rendered homeless by flood from Benazir Income Support Programme.
