ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 : The Chairman, Muhammadiyah, leading religious organization of Indonesia, Prof. Din Syamsuddin Saturday made a fervent appeal to affluent segments of the society, philanthropists and other humanitarian organizations to donate generously for the flood victims in Pakistan. Addressing a press conference along with Ambassador Sanaullah at the Mohammadiyah headquarters, Jakarta, he also pledged an initial assistance of 100 million Indo Rupee as a gesture of goodwill,said a press release Saturday.
He told the media his organization had already made arrangements for collection of charity through its mosques at Friday congregations on 27th August.
Besides, Mohammadiayah would hold a special charity evening during Ramadan to raise funds.
He also called upon other organizations to make donations for the flood victims in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Sanaullah briefed the media about the flood situation in Pakistan saying the damage caused by floods was huge and it would cost billions of dollars to undertake reconstruction and rehabilitation process.
He said the National Disaster Management Authority, the civil society, armed forces and other humanitarian organizations were working to alleviate miseries of the people as a joint effort. The government, he said ensured that relief assistance was disbursed among the needy in a just manner.
However he expressed gratitude to the government of Indonesia for its assistance but added Pakistan also expected assistance from the Indonesian people, humanitarian organizations and charities.
